Tsinghua University has several distinct scholarship routes for international graduate applicants. They do not share one application form, one eligibility standard or one deadline. Some are administered through the China Scholarship Council, while others are linked to a particular school, degree program or external sponsor.
2027 application status: Tsinghua's official pages for the Chinese Government Scholarship and the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program currently state that the 2027 information is coming soon. The other official pages below contain standing program information or material published for earlier admission cycles. Use this guide to prepare, but do not reuse a 2025 or 2026 deadline for a 2027 application.

Chinese Government Scholarship: Type B Through Tsinghua
The Chinese Government Scholarship Type B route is the principal university-administered CGS option described by Tsinghua Graduate Admissions. It generally covers Chinese Government Scholarship programs for which a Chinese university is responsible, including the High-Level Postgraduate Program.
The currently published guidance says applicants must first be pre-admitted by Tsinghua and recommended for the scholarship by the admitting school or department. A direct CSC application without that pre-admission and recommendation is not treated as a complete Tsinghua Type B route.
Current eligibility framework
Under the published 2026 guidance, an applicant must:
- be a citizen of a country other than the People's Republic of China and be in good mental and physical health;
- hold a bachelor's degree and be under 35 when applying for a master's program, or hold a master's degree and be under 40 when applying for a doctoral program;
- meet the stated Chinese-language requirement for a Chinese-taught graduate program, subject to the published exemption for an earlier degree taught in Chinese; and
- receive Tsinghua pre-admission and a scholarship recommendation from the relevant school or department.
The official page notes that eligible bachelor's degree holders pursuing a Tsinghua doctoral degree may also apply through a qualifying CGS route. Applicants should not assume that every graduate program can nominate Type B candidates.
Funding and duration
A full CGS award covers tuition, a university dormitory place or accommodation subsidy, a stipend and comprehensive medical insurance. A partial award contains one or more components of the full package.
The published duration is one to three years for a master's degree and four to five years for a doctoral degree. Continued support is subject to the required annual review.
Application sequence
- Apply to the relevant Tsinghua graduate program and follow its school or department deadline.
- Obtain pre-admission and confirmation that the school or department will recommend the scholarship application.
- Complete the CSC online application when instructed by Tsinghua.
- Follow any additional submission requirements issued by the admitting unit.
- Wait for Tsinghua's nomination process and CSC's final review.
The 2026 page recommended applying to Tsinghua before mid-December 2025 because some internal deadlines were early. That date is historical context only. Wait for the 2027 notice and the exact deadline of the target school or department.
Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program
The Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program, or AFLSP, is offered by the Bai Xian Asia Institute to promote cross-cultural understanding within Asia. Tsinghua's published 2026 notice covered prospective full-time international master's students from Asia.
The 2026 award supported one or two years of study and included tuition plus a living allowance intended to cover accommodation, books and other materials. Recipients were also expected to participate in mandatory enrichment activities organized by Tsinghua and the Bai Xian Asia Institute. Academic performance in the first scholarship year affected continuation into a second funded year.
The earlier process required an applicant to apply for a full-time Tsinghua international master's program, then submit separate scholarship materials to the target school or department. The page now says that the 2027 scholarship information is coming soon, so applicants should reconfirm:
- which nationalities or places of residence are eligible;
- which Tsinghua master's programs participate;
- whether the award remains available for one or two years;
- the current funding standard and compatibility with other financial support; and
- the 2027 school-level submission deadline.
Atomic Energy Scholarship Program of China
The Atomic Energy Scholarship Program is jointly initiated by the China Atomic Energy Authority and China's Ministry of Education. It is intended to develop young professionals from developing countries for the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The official Tsinghua page lists tuition, a university dormitory place or accommodation subsidy, a stipend and comprehensive medical insurance. The stated duration is two to three years for a master's degree and three to four years for a doctoral degree.
The published eligibility framework is aimed at non-Chinese citizens committed to work in the nuclear sector. Applicants should have a relevant bachelor's or master's background, such as nuclear engineering, nuclear technology applications, mechanics, energy, chemical engineering or physics, together with suitable research ability and language proficiency. The page lists an age limit of under 35 for master's applicants and under 40 for doctoral applicants, and says that relevant work experience receives priority consideration.
Applicants begin with Tsinghua pre-admission to an eligible graduate program and then follow the scholarship application instructions. Because the official page does not currently present a clearly identified 2027 schedule, confirm cohort availability, eligible disciplines, language evidence and the current system steps before applying.
New Sinology Program Doctoral Fellowship
The New Sinology Program is administered through the program's official Chinese Plus platform. Its doctoral fellowship belongs to a specialist China-studies route rather than Tsinghua's general scholarship application.
Prospective applicants should use the current program notice to identify the doctoral categories, academic fields, host-supervisor arrangements, language requirements, funding period and required documents. They should then confirm with the relevant Tsinghua school whether it can host the proposed research and whether a separate Tsinghua graduate application is required.
The linked program platform is a dynamic site and did not provide a stable 2027 Tsinghua-specific notice during this review. No deadline, funding amount or Tsinghua quota should therefore be inferred from an earlier cohort.
IMPA-MOFCOM Scholarship
Tsinghua's International Master of Public Administration program is a one-year, English-taught degree offered by the School of Public Policy and Management. It is designed for government officials from developing countries and focuses on public administration, China's development experience and leadership in transitional settings.
The published applicant profile includes government officials at division-head level or above, an authenticated bachelor's degree, at least five years of full-time work experience after undergraduate graduation, an age below 45 and strong English proficiency. Only candidates recommended through an embassy of the People's Republic of China are considered under the published route.
The program pages describe a two-part application involving the relevant Chinese Government Scholarship process and Tsinghua's international graduate application, followed by submission through the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office of the Chinese embassy in the applicant's country. The materials include passport and degree records, academic transcripts, an English personal statement and other documents required by the current notice.
The cited procedure page still displays a 2025 deadline. Treat it as an archived cycle, not as the 2027 schedule. Before preparing an application, confirm the current MOFCOM nomination channel with the responsible authority in the applicant's country and obtain the 2027 Tsinghua instructions.
IMPA-BRI Scholarship
The International Master of Public Administration in the Belt and Road Initiative is a one-year, full-time English master's program at Tsinghua's School of Public Policy and Management. It combines coursework, field research and thesis writing, with a focus on public policy, China's development experience and the Belt and Road Initiative.
The eligibility page published for 2026 states that applicants should be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid ordinary passport and a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Preferred applicants include senior government officials, senior enterprise managers, and senior administrative or managerial staff at universities and research institutions. It also states a preferred profile of at least five years of full-time work after the bachelor's degree, age below 45 before enrolment, strong English ability, good health and good character.
These pages confirm the academic program and applicant profile, but they do not establish complete 2027 scholarship terms. Applicants must check the new notice for the sponsoring scholarship, eligible countries, funding coverage, nomination requirements and submission route rather than treating admission to IMPA-BRI as an automatic funding award.
IMP-MSE Scholarship
The International Master Program of Materials Science and Engineering is an English-taught graduate program offered by Tsinghua's School of Materials Science and Engineering. Its official admissions page describes merit-based scholarship support for outstanding applicants on a competitive basis, including a full tuition waiver and monthly stipend.
The published admission requirements include non-Chinese citizenship, a valid passport, a bachelor's degree or equivalent, English proficiency and two academic or professional recommendation letters. The current page specifies TOEFL 85 or IELTS 6.5 for a non-native English speaker, but applicants should verify whether the same threshold applies to the 2027 intake.
The page also distinguishes the Chinese Government Scholarship from the school scholarship. It recommends applying in the earlier round for the strongest chance of a CSC nomination and explains that later-round school-scholarship opportunities are limited. The school scholarship is described as supporting IMP-MSE rather than other master's programs in the school.
All displayed application dates currently belong to the 2026 cycle. Confirm the 2027 rounds, available awards, selection method, tuition waiver, stipend and accommodation terms in the new admissions notice.
Build a 2027 Application Plan
Start with the degree program, then identify the scholarship route that can support it. A scholarship title alone does not establish that a particular Tsinghua program participates.
- Choose the exact Tsinghua degree and school or department.
- Check whether the program is eligible for CGS Type B, a specialist scholarship or school-level funding.
- Record every required application system. Some routes require both a Tsinghua application and a sponsor, CSC or embassy submission.
- Ask the school or department whether pre-admission or internal nomination is required before the external scholarship form.
- Prepare degree records, transcripts, passport material, language evidence, recommendations and the study or research statement early.
- Recheck the official 2027 notice before submitting, especially the deadline, age calculation date, eligible countries, degree level and funding package.
