Peking University has published its 2027 application information for international master's and doctoral applicants. This guide organizes the university-wide requirements into a practical sequence while keeping program-specific decisions with the responsible PKU school or department.
Source boundary: This is an independent guide to the PKU notice, not a replacement for it. Dates, scores and application rules below are tied to the 2027 intake and were checked against the official Chinese and English pages on October 30, 2026. Follow the official notice and the guidance for your selected program before submitting an application.
Admission Record at a Glance
| Record | Verified scope |
|---|---|
| Entry year | 2027 |
| Applicant category | International applicants |
| Study levels | Master's and doctoral degrees |
| Selection method | Application and examination |
| General application period | October 26–December 25, 2026, Beijing time |
| General application fee | RMB 800 for each choice; up to two choices |
| Campuses in this notice | Yanyuan, New Yanyuan, School of Software and Microelectronics, and Shenzhen Graduate School |
| Separate route | PKU Health Science Center publishes its own graduate application guidance |
The general deadline does not automatically apply to every English-taught master's program. PKU directs those applicants to the individual program notice for the applicable deadline.
Check the Scope Before You Apply
This notice covers international graduate admission at the PKU campuses and units named above. It does not function as a complete program catalogue. Applicants must use the official 2027 international graduate catalogue to confirm the school, major, study mode, teaching language and any department-level requirements.
The standard study period is generally two or three years for a master's degree and four or five years for a doctoral degree. A doctoral route entered directly from a bachelor's degree is generally five years. A specific program may state a different arrangement.
Application Timeline
| Stage | Official timing | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Online application | October 26–December 25, 2026 | Confirm whether the selected English-taught master's program uses a separate deadline. |
| Department examination | January–March 2027 | The school or department determines the format, requirements and exact schedule. |
| Preliminary admission | Before the end of May 2027 | Monitor the relevant school or department announcement. |
| Original application delivery | By May 31, 2027 | This applies to candidates at the pre-admission stage as described in the official notice. |
| Admission documents | From late June 2027 | PKU plans to issue documents in batches. |
| Enrollment | Early September 2027 | The admission notice provides the final registration date. |
These stages are not interchangeable. Passing the initial document review does not mean that an applicant has passed the department examination or received admission.
Basic Eligibility
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport and must meet PKU's nationality-document rules. The university states additional requirements for applicants who previously held status connected with the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan; those applicants should read the official nationality clause in full rather than rely on a summary.
Applicants must also meet the university's health, conduct and legal-compliance conditions. For academic preparation:
- A master's applicant must normally hold a bachelor's degree or higher from an institution recognized by China's Ministry of Education.
- A doctoral applicant must normally hold a master's degree or higher from a recognized institution.
- PKU states that strong bachelor's degree holders may apply directly to doctoral study in science and engineering.
- Academic record, academic level and language ability must meet the requirements of the selected major.
- Certain professional degrees have additional conditions under the applicable national graduate admission rules.
Language Requirements
For the Chinese-taught disciplines listed in the university notice, PKU provides the following HSK 6 thresholds:
| Discipline group | HSK 6 total | Writing section |
|---|---|---|
| Science and engineering | Above 200 | At least 65 |
| Humanities and social sciences | Above 210 | At least 65 |
PKU also states that applicants who have taken the new HSK Levels 7–9 may submit a corresponding qualifying score report. The official notice does not define every program-level interpretation of that route, so applicants should confirm acceptance with the relevant school or program.
English-score verification required: The official English page currently displays a TOEFL iBT threshold that appears internally inconsistent. GoStudyCN has not corrected or inferred the intended number. Applicants to an English-taught program should use that program's own admissions guide and obtain confirmation from PKU before relying on a score threshold.
Application Documents
The online application is submitted through the PKU International Student Service System. The university-wide list includes:
- Degree certificate and the applicable degree-authentication report, or current enrollment and expected-graduation evidence for an applicant who has not yet graduated.
- Official academic transcripts in Chinese or English, or the required notarized version.
- A personal statement with a research plan, written in the teaching language of the selected program.
- A resume and the application commitment letter.
- Two recommendations from professors, associate professors or experts with an equivalent professional title in the relevant field.
- Chinese or English language evidence applicable to the selected program.
- Passport identity pages meeting the university's continuity and validity rules.
- A list and abstracts of academic publications or other original research achievements, when available.
- Any supplementary material required by the school or department.
PKU requires clear color scans made with a scanner and states that phone or camera photographs are not accepted. Applicants should read the official document instructions before preparing final files because authentication, translation and timing requirements depend on the document type.
Review and Admission Process
The International Student Division first reviews basic eligibility and application materials. Applications that pass this stage are forwarded to the relevant school or department for academic review. The department then determines the candidates invited to its examination stage.
PKU describes the examination as an assessment of professional knowledge, research capacity, language ability, innovation and overall quality. The responsible school or department publishes the exact arrangement, so the central notice should not be treated as the only page to monitor.
Tuition, Scholarships and Living Arrangements
PKU links to a separate official 2027 graduate tuition document rather than placing all tuition amounts in the main notice. Applicants should use that file for the selected category and recheck whether the amount is annual or program-based.
The notice identifies three broad funding routes for new international graduate students: the Chinese Government Scholarship High-Level Postgraduate Program, the Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students and the Peking University Scholarship for New International Students. Each route has separate conditions and should be checked independently from admission. See the Peking University scholarship guide for the current source boundary.
Students studying in China for more than six months are directed to use the X1 student-visa route and complete the required residence-permit process after arrival. PKU also requires the applicable medical insurance. Except where a scholarship provides accommodation, students should not assume that university housing is included.
What Still Requires a Program-Level Check
Before paying the application fee, confirm all of the following against the selected program or school notice:
- Whether the major is open to international applicants in the 2027 catalogue.
- The teaching language, study mode and expected study period.
- The exact deadline for an English-taught master's program.
- The accepted English-language evidence and minimum result.
- Any portfolio, research proposal, supervisor-contact or department document requirement.
- The department examination format and schedule.
- The tuition amount and scholarship route applicable to that program.
Editorial Verification Notes
The Chinese official page displays a publication date of October 23, 2026. The English page provides the corresponding application information and a list of English-taught graduate programs, but individual program guides remain authoritative for their specific requirements.
GoStudyCN has retained exact dates, fee amounts and score thresholds only where the official notice states them clearly. Apparent source inconsistencies are marked for verification rather than silently corrected. This page will be updated if PKU revises the central notice or publishes a clarification.
