The University of Science and Technology of China, commonly known as USTC, lists three principal scholarship categories for international master's and doctoral applicants: the CAS-ANSO Scholarship, the Chinese Government Scholarship and the USTC Scholarship. Some specialist awards may also be available for a defined discipline or applicant group.
2027 application status: USTC's current fellowship pages confirm the scholarship categories for graduate applicants, but a complete 2027 call with deadlines and cycle-specific terms was not available during this review. The latest detailed CAS-ANSO call found on the official USTC International College site is for 2026. Use the earlier cycle only to understand the route and prepare documents; do not reuse its deadline, age cut-off or funding figures for a 2027 application.
Scholarship Routes at a Glance
| Scholarship route | Main study route | 2027 status |
|---|---|---|
| CAS-ANSO Scholarship | International master's and doctoral degree study | 2027 USTC call pending |
| Chinese Government Scholarship | Eligible international graduate programs | Current route confirmed; 2027 terms pending |
| USTC Scholarship | Eligible international graduate programs | Current route confirmed; 2027 terms pending |
| Atomic Energy Scholarship Program | Nuclear energy and related master's or doctoral study | Specialist route; 2027 availability pending |
USTC states that applicants may seek consideration under more than one category, but an applicant may receive no more than one scholarship. Each category has its own eligibility and submission requirements, and USTC decides whether to recommend an applicant to the relevant scholarship authority.
CAS-ANSO Scholarship
The CAS-ANSO Scholarship is a major graduate funding route supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions. USTC is one of the institutions responsible for admitting and managing degree candidates under the program.
The official 2026 call covered master's and doctoral study. It also described the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship as a doctoral sub-category, with priority considerations connected to developing countries, climate-related research, least developed countries and women.
Earlier-cycle funding reference
Under the published 2026 call, the award included:
- a tuition waiver and application-fee waiver;
- health insurance;
- a monthly stipend of CNY 3,000 for master's students for up to 36 months;
- a doctoral stipend of CNY 6,000 or CNY 7,000 for up to 48 months, depending on the university qualification test;
- one international journey from the awardee's home country to China; and
- a one-time visa or residence-permit allowance, subject to sponsor rules.
These are 2026 terms, not confirmed 2027 funding standards. Applicants already in China at the time of application were not eligible for the travel subsidy under that notice.
Earlier-cycle eligibility reference
The 2026 call required applicants to be non-Chinese citizens, meet USTC's international admission criteria and be proficient in English or Chinese. It used birth-date cut-offs tied to that application year and barred simultaneous applications to the CAS-ANSO Scholarship at both USTC and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The same call required recipients to complete centralized Chinese-language and culture training, academic credits, research and the degree thesis, and warned that failure in annual assessment could end both scholarship support and degree study.
Prepare for the 2027 call
The 2026 process used USTC's admission system and required the applicant to select the CAS-ANSO Scholarship. Its deadline was January 31, 2026. That date has passed and must not be used for 2027.
Before applying for 2027, confirm:
- the opening date and USTC deadline;
- the new age or birth-date calculation rules;
- whether both master's and doctoral places are available;
- the current stipend, travel and visa allowances;
- the required degree, transcript, recommendation, language and research documents; and
- whether the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO doctoral sub-category is offered on the same terms.
Chinese Government Scholarship
USTC's current master's and doctoral fellowship pages list the Chinese Government Scholarship as Type B. The university's broader English scholarship page also identifies it as an available route for outstanding international graduate applicants.
The current USTC pages do not provide a complete 2027 Type B notice, funding table or deadline. Applicants should therefore avoid importing agency numbers, deadlines or language thresholds from a different university. The correct USTC process must be confirmed when the official 2027 call appears.
The likely preparation sequence is to choose the exact USTC graduate program, review its admission requirements, prepare the academic and language documents, and then follow USTC's instructions for the university admission system and the China Scholarship Council system. A university recommendation does not by itself establish final CSC approval.
Review the general Chinese Government Scholarship routes to understand the difference between university-administered Type B and dispatching-authority Type A applications.
USTC Scholarship
USTC Scholarship is listed as Type C on the university's current fellowship pages for both master's and doctoral applicants. It is a university scholarship route distinct from CAS-ANSO and the Chinese Government Scholarship.
The official fellowship pages confirm the category and the one-award limit, but do not publish complete 2027 eligibility, funding, duration or deadline information. Applicants should wait for the current admissions guide before assuming that every program participates or that earlier tuition, accommodation or stipend arrangements remain unchanged.
When the 2027 notice is released, check whether consideration is automatic through the degree application or requires a separate scholarship selection, and verify the exact coverage, annual-review rules and compatibility with other funding.
Atomic Energy Scholarship Program
The Atomic Energy Scholarship Program is a specialist Chinese Government Scholarship route jointly initiated by the China Atomic Energy Authority and China's Ministry of Education. The USTC notice reviewed for this guide was published for an earlier cycle and targeted young professionals from developing countries working toward the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The published framework covered relevant backgrounds such as nuclear engineering, nuclear technology applications, mechanics, energy, chemical engineering and physics. It required suitable research ability, language proficiency and USTC admission eligibility, with preference for relevant work experience.
The earlier notice described tuition, university accommodation or an accommodation subsidy, a stipend and comprehensive medical insurance. It listed a study duration of two to three years for a master's degree and three to four years for a doctorate. Its application used CSC Type B and USTC agency number 10358, followed by a specialist submission to USTC.
That notice contained a 2025 deadline and does not confirm a 2027 intake. Recheck program availability, eligible countries and disciplines, age limits, language evidence, agency instructions and the submission email before acting.
Application Documents to Prepare
The exact list must come from the 2027 call, but USTC's recent official scholarship notices commonly require:
- a valid ordinary passport;
- the highest degree certificate or proof of expected graduation;
- complete academic transcripts with required translations;
- language-proficiency evidence for the selected program;
- a study or research plan;
- two academic recommendations;
- a physical examination completed within the permitted validity period;
- a recent non-criminal record; and
- additional program-specific research, employment or supervisor materials.
Do not submit an old template without checking that it is still accepted. Scholarship and degree applications may share documents but can have different systems and validation rules.
Build a Reliable 2027 Application Plan
- Select the exact USTC master's or doctoral program and confirm its teaching language and academic prerequisites.
- Compare CAS-ANSO, Chinese Government Scholarship and USTC Scholarship without assuming they share one deadline or funding standard.
- Prepare degree records, transcripts, recommendations, language evidence and a research plan early.
- Check whether the application asks for a prospective supervisor or school-level assessment.
- Use only the scholarship category, agency number and portal stated in the new USTC notice.
- Recheck the official International College site before submission, especially the deadline, age calculation, funding package and annual-review obligations.
