Chinese Government Scholarship: Chinese University Program
This full scholarship supports eligible international applicants for master's and doctoral study at HUST. Applicants may select a Chinese-taught or English-taught program where available. The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, a living stipend and comprehensive medical insurance.
Applications are open from November 1, 2026 to February 25, 2027. Candidates first apply through the HUST online application system. Applications that pass the university's academic review may be nominated, after which HUST provides instructions for the Chinese Government Scholarship stage. A university nomination is not the final scholarship decision.
Eligibility and academic requirements
Master's applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and be under 35. Doctoral applicants must hold a master's degree and be under 40. HUST lists a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, 3.75 on a 5.0 scale or 75 on a 100-point scale, while accepting equivalent grading systems. These are minimum application thresholds; each school or department makes its own selection decision.
For English-taught programs, the listed evidence is TOEFL 80, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 120 or another certificate accepted by HUST. Applicants whose previous education was taught in English may be exempt from submitting an English certificate.
For Chinese-taught programs, the minimum threshold depends on the field:
- HSK 4 with at least 180 for science and engineering, and for programs in the School of Stomatology and School of Pharmacy;
- HSK 5 with at least 180 for economics, management, literature, law, education and interdisciplinary studies, as well as the Second Clinical College and School of Medicine and Health Management; and
- HSK 5 with at least 200 for programs in the First Clinical College.
Applicants whose previous education was taught in Chinese may be exempt from submitting a Chinese-language certificate.

Youth of Excellence Scheme of China
HUST's 2027 Youth of Excellence route supports two English-taught master's programs: Master of International Business and Master of Public Administration. The degree follows a two-year 1+1 structure. Students complete coursework, research and dissertation preparation at HUST during the first year, then return to their home country to complete the dissertation and defence requirements in the second year.
The full scholarship funds the first year and covers tuition, accommodation, a living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance.
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens under 45, hold at least a bachelor's degree and have at least three years of work experience. The route is designed for senior public officials, senior managers, university or research administrators, and applicants with employment or internship experience in an international organization. Relevant academic or professional experience is preferred.
Applicants need a good command of English. HUST gives preference to TOEFL 80, IELTS 6.0, GRE 310 or accepted equivalent evidence; applicants whose prior teaching language was English may also qualify.
Candidates who want a HUST pre-admission letter should apply in the HUST system by March 1, 2027, selecting Only for Pre-admission Letter and the relevant Youth of Excellence program. The scholarship application is then submitted in the CSC system by March 31, 2027 using program category Type A and agency number 1563.
China Link Scholarship
The 2026-2027 China Link Scholarship supports academic study or research visits at HUST lasting one to twelve months. General scholar applicants must be current undergraduate or master's students and be under 45. Senior scholar applicants must be current doctoral students or full-time academic staff and be under 50.
Applicants must remain registered or employed full-time at one of CSC's overseas partner universities during the proposed stay. Study or research may be conducted in English or Chinese in any discipline except Chinese-language study.
The scholarship includes a tuition waiver, on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance and a monthly stipend of CNY 3,000 for general scholars or CNY 3,500 for senior scholars. The visit must begin no later than August 31, 2027.
Applicants first contact HUST at vivianyan@hust.edu.cn for an invitation letter. They then apply through the CSC system using HUST agency number 10487. The published HUST guide does not state a single university deadline, so applicants should confirm timing before preparing travel or enrollment plans.
Chinese Government Scholarship: Bilateral Program
The Bilateral Program can support undergraduate, master's, doctoral, general-scholar and senior-scholar study, depending on the agreement and the options available in the applicant's country.
Applicants apply through the designated dispatching authority in their home country, such as the government department responsible for the scholarship. The authority sets the available categories and annual deadline. HUST and CSC do not accept Bilateral Program applications submitted directly by an individual applicant.
Candidates complete the CSC application, select HUST as their preferred institution where permitted, and submit the required documents to the dispatching authority by its deadline. A preference for HUST does not itself establish placement or scholarship selection.
Prepare a 2027 Application Plan
- Match the scholarship route to the intended study level and professional profile.
- Choose the program and teaching language before checking the language threshold.
- Use the correct first application point: HUST for the Chinese University Program, HUST and then CSC for Youth of Excellence, HUST invitation followed by CSC for China Link, or the home-country dispatching authority for the Bilateral Program.
- Prepare degree records, transcripts, language evidence, recommendations, passport material, physical examination and non-criminal record early.
- Use only the agency number assigned to the selected route. The 2027 Youth of Excellence route uses
1563; the 2026-2027 China Link route uses10487. - Check the selected program list for supervisor-letter and school-specific requirements before submitting.
Please note before application
The Chinese University Program and Youth of Excellence sections use HUST's published 2027 terms. China Link uses the 2026-2027 academic-year guide, and the Bilateral Program deadline is set outside HUST. International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship and MOFCOM pages currently visible in HUST's scholarship section contain older application dates, so they are not presented here as active 2027 routes.
