Chinese Government Scholarship: High Level Postgraduate Program
Funding and Study Scope
The 2027 High Level Postgraduate Program is a full scholarship. It covers tuition fees, accommodation expenses, a living stipend and comprehensive medical insurance. International travel costs are not included.
The published program list includes selected master's and doctoral programs rather than every SEU degree. Master's programs are generally three years, with the English-taught Engineering Management program listed as two years. Doctoral programs are listed as four years. Applicants must choose a program included in the 2027 scholarship announcement and follow its stated teaching language.
Eligibility
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens. Master's applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and be no older than 35. Doctoral applicants must hold a master's degree and be no older than 40.
For Chinese-taught programs, SEU requires at least HSK Level 4 with a score of 200. Applicants to medicine, humanities, economics and management programs must provide HSK Level 5 or above.
For English-taught programs, applicants whose native or official language is not English must provide one of the following:
- TOEFL: 80 or above
- IELTS: 6.0 or above
- Duolingo: 100 or above
Application Period
Applications are open from November 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027.
SEU states that candidates who pass the university review will be considered for recommendation to the China Scholarship Council. A pre-admission letter is expected before the end of March for recommended candidates; it is not the final scholarship decision.
Required Materials
The 2027 announcement requires:
- A passport valid for more than one year, plus the latest visa or residence permit page for applicants currently in China.
- The highest degree certificate. A current student who will obtain the required degree by September 15, 2027 may provide an official expected-graduation document.
- Official academic transcripts.
- The required HSK or English-language certificate for the selected program.
- Two recommendation letters.
- A potential supervisor's acceptance letter where required by the school or college.
- A research proposal of at least 800 words.
- A non-criminal record certificate.
- A physical examination record issued within the period specified by SEU.
- Any program-specific material, such as a portfolio for Architecture programs.
Documents must be in Chinese or English. A document in another language must include a notarized Chinese or English translation.
Application and Admission Process
- Apply through the SEU international student application system and select the Chinese Government Scholarship Type B program. SEU permits one program choice; repeated applications are not reviewed.
- Follow the application status in the SEU system through initial review, application-fee payment, academic review and pre-admission.
- If SEU issues a pre-admission letter, complete the CSC application within the period stated in that letter. Select Program Category Type B and use SEU agency number 10286.
- Wait for the final CSC decision. SEU sends admission documents to the email address entered in the application system.
Registration is scheduled for late August to early September 2027, with the exact date stated in the admission notice. Admitted students must present the required original degree, transcript and language documents during registration.
Southeast University Scholarship
The SEU Scholarship application period is published as November 2026-May 2027. Applicants use the SEU international student application system, select the Southeast University Scholarship program, submit the required materials and complete the online application. Only one program may be selected.
The scholarship page applies the following language thresholds:
- Chinese-taught programs: HSK Level 4 with 200 or above; medicine, humanities, economics and management require HSK Level 5 or above.
- English-taught programs: TOEFL 80, IELTS 6.0 or Duolingo 100 for applicants whose native or official language is not English.
It also requires two recommendation letters, a research proposal of at least 800 words, a supervisor acceptance letter for designated colleges, a recent physical examination record, a non-criminal record certificate and a financial support guarantee statement. Program-specific materials may also apply.
The current page does not publish scholarship categories, award amounts or a complete funding package. Applicants should not assume that the SEU Scholarship provides the same coverage as the Chinese Government Scholarship.
Other Scholarship Entries
International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship
SEU's latest available guide is the 2026 scholarship guide. It includes a one-semester route beginning in March 2027, but the stated application deadline was October 31, 2026. That route requires HSK Level 3 with 180 points and an HSKK score. Applicants with an X1 or X2 visa in their passport are not admitted to the one-semester route under that guide.
The guide also covers a master's degree in International Chinese Language Education, one-academic-year study and four-week study, but their published start dates and deadlines belong to 2026. They do not establish a new 2027 application cycle.
Nanjing Government Scholarship
SEU lists the Nanjing Government Scholarship and provides a downloadable application form, but the linked page does not publish a current 2027 deadline, eligibility rules or funding amount. Treat this as a possible route pending a current intake notice.
Build a 2027 Application Plan
- Choose a degree and confirm that it appears in the relevant 2027 scholarship program list.
- Match the teaching language to the HSK or English-language requirement before applying.
- Decide between the Chinese Government Scholarship and SEU Scholarship route in the SEU system; do not submit repeated program applications.
- Obtain the supervisor acceptance letter early if the selected school requires one.
- Prepare notarized Chinese or English translations for documents issued in another language.
- Use the email address entered in the application system throughout the process because SEU sends admission documents there.
- For the Chinese Government Scholarship, complete the CSC Type B application only after receiving and following the SEU pre-admission instructions.
Please note before application
The 2027 Chinese Government Scholarship and SEU Scholarship application periods are published. The current SEU Scholarship page does not state its award amounts or full funding package, and SEU has not published complete 2027 terms for every scholarship listed in its directory. Use the terms attached to the exact scholarship and intake selected in the application system.
